Jewish Day Camp Scholarships

The Jewish Community Federation provides needs-based scholarships to children attending qualified Jewish day camps (both summer and winter camp) in the Federation Service Area (Sonoma and Marin Counties, San Francisco and the Peninsula, Sunnyvale and north).

JCF day camp scholarships are intended to provide “last resort” community resources above and beyond what is contributed by families and individual camps.

How to apply

Families must apply for JCF day camp scholarships through their day camp.

Qualifying day camps

The following day camps qualified for JCF scholarship funding in 2012. Camps must re-qualify each year.

San Francisco:
JCCSF Rabin Summer Camps, Jewish Community Center of San Francisco
Camp Gan Israel, San Francisco
Camp Gan Israel, Noe Valley
Friendship Circle

Peninsula:
Chai Preschool Day Camp, Foster City
Peninsula Jewish Community Center, Foster City
J-Camp, Oshman Family Jewish Community Center, Palo Alto
Friendship Circle Peninsula/South Bay, Palo Alto
Camp Gan Israel of Silicon Valley, Palo Alto

Marin:

Scholarship award process

JCF allocates block grants to each qualifying day camp from which to award scholarships based on financial need. Applications are reviewed and awards determined by the camp’s financial aid committee. Application contents and materials and applicants’ identities are kept strictly confidential. Applicants will be notified about award decisions directly by the day camp.

JCF scholarship guidelines

Day camps use the following guidelines to administer JCF scholarships
  • Families with children between the ages of 3 and 15 (by June 1, 2013) are eligible.
  • Children must be Jewish (as identified by their families)
  • Qualifying day camps must be located in the Federation Service Area.
  • JCF scholarships must be “last resort” funds, supplementing financial assistance provided by the day camp, family and all other possible sources, for families who would otherwise not be able to attend.
  • Families may apply for JCF day camp scholarships for one or more children for multiple sessions.
  • Families must contribute a minimum percentage of total tuition according to their ability to pay.
  • Scholarship funds may be used for camp tuition and associated before and after care. Camp-provided bus transportation is not covered unless included in camp fees.
