The PJ Library

The PJ Library®: Jewish Stories & Songs for Families

The PJ Library® program sends free Jewish-content books and music on a monthly basis to children ages 6 months to 7 years! Thanks to the generosity of the Jim Joseph Foundation, The PJ Library® is available free of charge throughout the Bay Area.

Our community is committed to Early Childhood Jewish Education and has responded to this need through the Bay Area’s Early Childhood Education Initiative, launched in 2007. We are dedicated to addressing the needs of the youngest members of our community and their families.

Research has shown that experiences in the first five years establish the basis of a child's Jewish sense of self. Through The PJ Library®, parents can create a special time with their children to learn about and appreciate their heritage.

What parents are saying

"I just wanted to relay my immense gratitude for the gifts the PJ Library bestow upon my kids each month. My children are elated when they see the envelopes arrive in the mail. The books have been the main source of integrating Judaism into our home and educating my children about their heritage. PJ Library has been the impetus for our celebration of all the Jewish holidays now (mom needed a bit of motivation and education as well!). We’ve attended community events that we would otherwise have not known about but for the PJ Library website. It’s really been such a gift for which we are so grateful."

The PJ Library® in San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties is generously funded by The Jim Joseph Foundation, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, and the Jewish Community Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties. The PJ Library® is made possible by a generous grant from the Jim Joseph Foundation and the Jewish Community Endowment Fund of the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation. Conceptualized in 2005 by entrepreneur Harold Grinspoon and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, The PJ Library® grew out of Grinspoon's concern that numerous young Jewish families are only marginally engaged, or not engaged at all, in Jewish life.
