reCOVER
Book Bindings by Sasha Mosalov
reCover illustrates Sasha's dedication to the craft of bookmaking and long-term interest in Jewish imagery and symbolism, which finds expression in his albums, book covers, and other objects he creates.
The Library is proud to (host) Sasha's first solo exhibition. Until now, his books have been dispersed among the far-flung group of friends and patrons to whom he gives them as soon as they are completed. For this exhibition he has been inspired to bring together all the diverse facets of his artwork – to "reCOVER" is to create an entirely new and uniquely personal collection of his book covers and related pieces. The exhibition is dedicated to the memory of his father-in-law, Lev, the patriarch of his family.
Sasha Mosalov began his bookmaking career as an edition binder during a time when a huge amount of literature was forbidden by the Soviet government. Although it was quite risky, he was determined to pursue his love for fine books and literature by binding and distributing banned books all around Moscow. Using his technical bookmaking background and his fine arts education, Sasha developed a unique style using traditional and non-traditional media to transform conventional books into works of art.
Sasha Mosalov produces a variety of artistic book bindings that incorporate painting, mixed media collage, hand crafted paper, and found objects. To learn more about Sasha and his work vistbookdestiny.com.
The event is open during library hours.
