Oneg Israel with Beit Tefilah Israeli

The Israel Awareness Committee invites you to join us on our next “armchair trip” to Israel. Come with your family to the Social Hall after the Shabbat service, help yourself to a delicious Israeli-style supper, then sit back and listen to the musical performance by our special guests from Tel Aviv: members of Beit Tefila Yisraeli (Israeli House of Prayer). They will perform Israeli devotional and innovative liturgical music, accompanied by stories about the Jewish spiritual renaissance in Israel and their role in building a community.

Beit Tefilah Yisraeli is a young and fast-growing, liberal, independent, egalitarian and inclusive community in urban Tel Aviv, which is committed to Jewish spirit, culture and social action and is striving to redefine the Jewish-Israeli identity of the secular Israeli public.

Beit Tefilah Yisraeli celebrates weekly Kabbalat Shabbat services throughout the year in its "home" in central Tel Aviv and during the summer in the Tel Aviv Port where hundreds of Israelis and visitors come together to share in a meaningful evening service welcoming Shabbat. In the last ten years, Beit Tefilah Yisraeli has become a “model community,” and the leader of the whole phenomenon of Jewish renewal in Israel by trying new ways to connecting secular Israelis with their Jewish identity and values. Learn more about Beit Tefilah Yisraeli.

In addition to the Oneg Shabbat, Beth Am Israel Awareness Committee is hosting BTI founding director and spiritual leader Rabbi Esteban Gottfried together with three of Beit Tefilah Yisraeli musicians for the weekend of October 31-November 1. The program for the weekend will include:

  • Participation in the Shabbat Service with Cantor Lauren Bandman.
  • Participation in Torah Study on Saturday morning.
  • A Shabbat afternoon family program open to the larger community.

RSVP online or by phone to Judith (650) 494-3081 no later than Tuesday, October 28.

Your contribution to the dinner is very much appreciated, and allows Beth Am to continue offering these Israeli cultural programs. Please send your donation to Congregation Beth Am with a note “for Oneg Israel.”
