Overview
Scope & Deliverables
Congregation Beth Jacob (CBJ) seeks advice on its liability, multi-peril, and directors/officers policies (excluding workers compensation). The advice it seeks is on: 1) its policy language and whether the language may result in claims being unexpectedly questioned or denied, and; 2) coverage gaps that it may not have considered. The scope of this project does not pertain to whether CBJ has the right policies and limits in place.
The deliverable would be a list of suggested policy enhancements or risk areas that we may not be aware of. It does not have to be formatted as a report. In the most optimistic scenario, the deliverable may simply be a statement that our policies appear adequate and should function the way we expect them to.
Organization Description
Congregation Beth Jacob is a conservative synagogue, located in Redwood City, with about 470 households and an annual operating budget of about $1.6 million. The synagogue has an array of activities, including religious services, religious school, preschool, youth programs, adult education, and life-cycle events.
Project Results
Reaching a higher sense of overall security is important to our health, both financial and spiritual. There is still trauma in the congregation from our devastating fire 30-plus years ago, and we have had several serious floods and mechanical breakdowns over the years. Synagogue management owes the congregation the highest level of diligence around insurance.
Required Skills/Experience
Professional experience in insurance matters for houses of worship or similar organizations.
Preferred: experience guiding insurance matters as part of a synagogue's lay leadership. The consultant must have no vested interest in the outcome of the consultation.
