BACKGROUND:
The San Francisco Bay Area Jewish community is different. Here, the earliest Jewish residents were not the poor and dispossessed fleeing persecution. They were the innovators - merchants, railroad builders, and bankers - who played an integral role in building the city of San Francisco and much of the Bay Area. As Jews, they knew the best way to overcome challenges was to work together. With giving to the community deeply woven into their culture, these pioneering settlers provided charity to those in need. They gave the city many of its great cultural landmarks. And they built enduring institutions to serve the generations who followed.
 
The Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin & Sonoma Counties (JCF) is their legacy. For over one hundred years, JCF has served as a safety net for those most at risk and a foundation for the entire community. And now, evolving to thrive in a changing environment, we rededicate ourselves to our essential founding principle – to collectively identify and solve the challenges facing our community. The JCF acts as a philanthropic engine - driving Jewish values of tzedakah, kehilla and tikkun olam into action, and empowering the community to work together to ensure our collective well-being locally, in Israel, and around the world.
 
Covering one of the largest and most diverse metropolitan Jewish populations in the country, the service area of the JCF encompasses approximately 125,000 households and is spread out from Palo Alto in the south to the northern border of Sonoma County. In 2011, our annual campaign raised over $19 million from 8,000 donors. Additionally JCF currently has an unrestricted Endowment of $73 million and manages over 900 donor advised funds, restricted funds and supporting foundations totaling $1.4 billion.
 
Historically, JCF has had two discrete development staffs – one for annual (Campaign) fundraising, and one for planned giving and donor directed fund development. JCF has begun an initiative to integrate these two functions into a single development operation. An affiliate of the Jewish Federations of North America, JCF is part of a network of over 160 Federations through the U.S. and Canada.
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant helps ensure the accurate recording and timely reporting of financial information.  This position functions as a member of the Supporting Foundations Accounting Department.  The Staff Accountant is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Foundations accounting manager.
