Join the Marina Abramovic Institute West in welcoming Israeli Performance Artists Lital Dotan and Eyal Perry to San Francisco.... 
Now more than ever we must show solidarity with the Israeli community and support the Israeli arts.  On Thursday July 29th from 7-9p the artists will be delivering a special performance and will be exhibiting works for sale as part of their fundraising efforts for their exhibition in San Francisco.  Of course, like every good Jewish event, their performance will be accompanied by a food and wine reception at the Institute located in the 575 Sutter Contemporary Arts Building in Union Square.  Admission is $20 at the door, walk ins welcome.
 
“Art should be experienced in a place that allows staying"
 
From now through October 6, 2010 at the Marina Abramovic Institute West, Israeli artist couple Lital Dotan and Eyal Perry will be creating their 'Glasshouse' project for San Francisco.  'Glasshouse' Tel Aviv is at one and the same time a dynamic art experience and the home of the two artists; an interactive and living space of live performances, video and installation works spread throughout the entire home space: in the kitchen, living-room, bathroom and bedroom.  The Glasshouse project is open to the public to raise questions about the experience of art in a domestic space.
 
During their three month residency, Lital and Eyal will be creating a new, San Francisco Glasshouse from scratch on the 7500 square foot ground floor of MAI West.
 
Due to the size and non-domestic nature of the Institute's facilities, the two will be especially challenged to create "a place that allows staying," and have already begun with their drastic transformation of the exhibition space.  Their closet has been exploded: pieces of clothing are suspended individually throughout the space on fishing line. Throughout this field of clothing are the remnants of Lital’s daily morning performance, in which the artist begins with a large piece of cloth and masterfully cuts, drapes and ties to create the socially necessary covering for the rest of her public day.
 
Their living, art production and performances will be open to the public during gallery hours and can be viewed from the street 24 hours a day through the Institute's glass windows.  In addition to performances during gallery hours Wednesday through Saturday 12-6pm, special performance dates are July 29, August 5, August 14, September 2, and September 3. 
 
Lital Dotan and Eyal Perry have been collaborating since 2001. They work in various mediums such as video, performance, photography and installation.  As Israeli artists who let their reality of life influence their work constantly, they deal with issues of emotional and social structures, intimacy and boundaries.  Alongside the philosophical and sociological aspects of their works, they always try to master the technology they use, whether it is cutting edge or obsolete, as they explore new approaches to video installations, photography and performance.  Lital and Eyal's works have been exhibited in museums and galleries world-wide including the Israel Museum, the San Francisco Contemporary Jewish Museum, the National Museum in Krakow and their work is in multiple public and private collections in both Israel and Europe.
