Harvey Milk Day is more than a celebration it is a day of action and remembrance. Celebrate by telling your story and taking action.

Telling your story...

  • Ask your workplace or school to have an announcement on the PA system about Harvey Milk Day. Include who he was, what he did, and why remembering him is important for you.
  • Host a workplace 'lunch and learn' to celebrate the life of Harvey Milk. Use the time to discuss LGBT current issues that have meaning to you and the impact that Harvey Milk had on our community. If you have a larger group ask a local LGBT professional activist to moderate the conversation.
  • Contact the LGBT Alliance to connect you with friends of Harvey's. Have them speak with your GSA at school or in your workplace about his impact in the 1970s and the relevance of his work today.
  • Watch the MILK Trailer and host a discussion about the themes of tikkun olam that are presented
  • Encourage the teachers in schools in your areas to have a class discussion on Harvey Milk and the LGBT civil rights movement by providing teachers with a few copies of The Harvey Milk Story by Kari Krakow. To help further the conversations on nonviolent activism, discrimination and homophobia provide the educators guide written by Danielle Morrison. Offer to tell your own story to the students.
